Uruguay Semi-Finals Vs Netherlands:

Uruguay faced the defensive Netherlands in the semi-finals and when Van Bronckhorst scored in the 18th minute, the dream Uruguay to be in a world cup final faded away.

But Diego Forlan proved yet again scoring the all important equalizer just before half time but the Netherlands won this encounter 3-2, with Uruguay crashing out of the world cup.

Uruguay 3rd place playoff Vs Germany:

Germany had lost to eventual World Cup winners Spain and had to face Uruguay for the 3rd and 4th World Cup spot. Golden boot winner Thomas Müller opened the scoring for Germany in the 19th minute but nine minutes later Edinson Cavani equalized.

Hamburg's left back Marcell Jansen scored his third goal for Germany to make it 2-1 but the golden ball winner Diego Forlan equalized in the 51st minute.

In the 82nd minute Sami Khedira made it 3-2 to the Germans and with eight minutes to go, it looked like the Germans secured the 3rd play in South Africa.

In the last kick of the match, Uruguay were awarded a freekick just outside the penalty area and golden ball winner Diego Forlan stepped up only to hit the cross bar.
